Paul’s Letter to the Romans
Eerdmans, 2012

Written by Colin G. Kruse, this commentary is the latest addition to the Pillar New Testament Commentary series. Kruse opens the volume with a discussion of the purpose, date and setting of the letter. Throughout the verse-by-verse commentary, Kruse adds notes on exegetical and theological topics, such as the righteousness of God, the subject of Paul’s discussion in Romans 7:7–25, and predestination in Romans 9:22–29. He also addresses whether the person mentioned in Romans 16:7 is Junia or Junias. In these notes, he presents alternative views and reveals his own perspective.

This commentary is scholarly yet accessible, and it interacts with the latest scholarship relating to Romans, such as the “New Perspective” on Paul. Its clear organization and accessible style make it well suited for teachers, pastors and students.
